Overview
Family law disputes are unlike any other: the opposing party is someone you once trusted, the stakes include your children and your financial future, and emotion runs through every decision. You need counsel who brings calm, structure and strategy to a chaotic time.
Waliani Law represents spouses and parents in negotiation, mediation and litigation under Ontario's Family Law Act, the Divorce Act and the Children's Law Reform Act. We resolve matters out of court whenever possible — and litigate decisively when it is not.
Our promise is candour: realistic advice about outcomes, transparent fees and a strategy built around what actually matters to you and your children.
Common Legal Issues
How We Help
Settlement-First Approach
Court is expensive, slow and public. We pursue negotiated agreements and mediation first — preserving relationships and resources.
Children at the Centre
Parenting arrangements built around your children's best interests, stability and your ongoing role in their lives.
Financial Precision
Support and equalization turn on numbers. We build rigorous financial disclosure and work with valuators where needed.
Decisive Litigation
When the other side won't be reasonable, we move — motions, case conferences and trial advocacy that protect your position.
What We Do

Entitlement, quantum and duration under the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines — for both recipients and payors — including variation and termination.
Equalization of net family property under the Family Law Act, exclusions, unequal division claims and treatment of the matrimonial home.
Comprehensive, enforceable domestic contracts that resolve all issues without court — including independent legal advice for the other party's agreement.
Prenuptial and cohabitation agreements that protect property, businesses and expectations before problems arise.
Client Experiences
My separation was resolved through a negotiated agreement without ever setting foot in a courtroom. I always understood my options, the costs and the strategy. My kids and I are in a better place because of it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Married spouses equalize their net family property: each spouse calculates the growth in their net worth during the marriage, and the spouse with the higher growth pays half the difference to the other. The matrimonial home receives special treatment, and certain assets — like gifts and inheritances kept separate — may be excluded. Common-law partners are not covered by equalization and rely instead on trust claims.
